I think this screenshot says it all. “Results are great but this sport is supposed to be fun.” This conversation came after my triathlon season opener at Rev3 Montclair Triathlon in Montclair, Virginia. Going into this triathlon; my first since Ironman Lake Placid which was last July, I wanted to do well. The goal was to have a good swim, CRUSH the bike, and just get through the run pain free (that story will come up at some point). Well I did just that this past Sunday. Something I didn’t tell a single soul was that all I could think about leading up to the race was placing in my age group and standing somewhere on that podium. When I finished and got my results to find out where I stood; 6 out of 19 in the female 30-34 age group, I was truly BUMMED until I saw results online and had to take that screenshot and send it to Heather. I had an amazing swim, a fierce bike, and well my run needs some work in the speed department. But the fact that I had the SECOND FASTEST swim and the THIR…
Sometimes you never know who will walk into your life and how much it will end up affecting you. I have to say how lucky I am that I found a friend in Moira. The affect she has had on me is something that is very hard to explain. Friends are there when you need it most; and well Moira has been there when I’ve needed her most. Come Tuesday Moira will start her first round of chemo. If you ask me; well don't because it brings tears to my eyes and I cry to think and hear and say that of all people... this my friends is happening to Moira.
I first met Moira in July 2016 when I tackled Ironman Lake Placid. Women for Tri had a practice swim Thursday and Friday morning down at Mirror Lake where the swim of Ironman Lake Placid takes place. I thought “what the heck” I’ll go down because what other things do I have to get done at 7am.…
Today was good; real good. I've trained my heart out for months for the moments I had today. I really wasn't sure that the moments I had today were possible until I looked up at the time board at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. My mouth dropped open so wide and there was this smile. The smile of a champion. The first and second in age group really don't matter much either. My new personal bests matter but in ways are just numbers. As a swimmer; I trained and saw results. But results again are just numbers. Today I found a love for swim meets; masters meets to be more specific. My friends cheered for me and I cheered for them. I just LOVED today. As I said today was good.
