More Recovery Please...

I'm not sure if it's from the Dextro Energy Tri or my 10.56 mile run this past Sunday... but I'm in for another week of recovery this week. My body and legs are just not feeling it. Yesterday's almost 6 mile run with Pacers was painful. The first half of the Sligo Out and Back to Dennis Ave was great... kept a steady just under 9 minute pace... but things quickly changed once we turned around to head back to the store. All the sudden my left leg locked up and I couldn't run on it one bit. Just picture limp running... that was me! For a whole mile I was struggling to run like a normal person and at one point was almost walking. Once I made it across one of the major intersections and back to the part where we turn off Sligo Creek Trail I was fine but running at more sluggish pace... close to 9:30 minute mile pace. I finished the run though in just a shade under 50 minutes... which I consider good after what happened after the turnaround.

Anyways I think I'm in for another week of a recovery. This week will consist of two as compared to three swim... two as compared to three bikes... but my running will stay at four times like normal. Next week though I hope to pick up the training. Afterall Philly Marathon is only 5 months away and my next tri is about a month and half away.

More to come...

Are you sure about the running volume after a limp-run session?

That did not sound like fun.

You sound like me... although it seems most of my weeks have become recovery weeks! :) I might consider backing off the run a bit, especially since you had pain in your last run. Just a though! Hope you get better!

I had a slow, ugly run yesterday, too -- had to go earlier in the day thx to a 4:30 a.m. wakeup this morning. Reminded myself that slow runs happen, and that it's better to have them happen while training than on race day! Throw some more rest at your poor, tired muscles, and you'll be back in action in a week or so!

Be easy on yourself. You're not going to lose it if you drop a run. No more 'lockouts' or limp runs home. There is NO sense in junk miles only quality ones.
good luck with your recovery. i guess it just takes time. Gotta let your body be your guide (not your training calender). We all beat ourselves up too much sometimes!
