Dextro Energy Triathlon Preview- Age Group Race Preview

The focus of the week... the Dextro Energy Triathlon... which will hit DC by storm Fathers Day weekend. Triathletes of all abilities... from newbie to competitive age groupers... will hit the waters of the Potomac River then bike and run their way past DCs tourist spots to the finish at Pennsylvania and 11th... not to far from the White House grounds.

The age group race will consist of two distances... Olympic (1500 meter swim, 25 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run) and Sprint (750 meter swim, 12 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run). Olympics distance athletes hit the Potomac at 6am while the Sprint distance athletes have to wait until 6:30 am. The swim starts just south of the Lincoln Memorial and will go up towards or under the Memorial Bridge... depending on what distance you do... to turn around to come back to the start... basically a rectangular loop. Once athleses hit transition... they mount the bike and make their way through the heart of DC... passing the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial (from a distance), Lincoln Memorial, the Kennedy Center, the Watergate Building... just to name a few. The Olympic is two loops and the Sprint is a single loop. After returning to transition age groupers athletes head out on the run to yet another amazing touristy sightseeing view of DC. The view will take athletes past the Washington Monument (again) not to mention the Mall for great views of all the museams visited by DC sightseers all year long. After turning off Constitution onto Pennsylvania... it's a straight shot run to the Finish with the Capital as the backdrop.

A great part of the triathlon is the Race Within A Race. Age groupers can compete for their home country to see whih nation has the fastest times... known as The Race of Nations. Athletes who are signed up for this will be ranked in thier perspective age group for possible podium place awards.

Tomorrow I will preview the Elite Race... a sure spectator friendly event for the whole family.

More to come...
