Training Lately...

So it's now what... a little over two weeks till the National Half Marathon in DC... yikes! Got an email the other day saying that the course has changed. Looks like we won't be running south from the Capital to the Monument... instead we might be heading north after we reach the Capital... major suckage! I love running on the mall in DC... so slendid to get the chance to do.

Swimming: Been slacking on this part. I just for some dang reason don't give a thing about it. At this time last year I was swimming at least 4500 yards each day three days a week... now I'm lucky if I get in 2500 to 3000 twice a week. When at the pool and actually swimming... been working the individual medley. I always found it fun to have variety in my workout. Lots of drill and kicking to go along with it... can't swim it all just swim... fly kills me and thats the first stroke of it!

Cycling: Been getting warm here in DC so I've been getting out and riding my bike... no more of my silly and stupid trainer for right now. I refuse to hop on that thing. Been finding some massive hills to climb... some of them even tougher than the hills I conquered in CDA! My legs are strong right now but if I keep on doing them... in no time I'll be back in the groove of hill work. Lots of rides on the somewhat flat and gorgeous Beach Drive. A good 25 miles just going North then heading back and through the closed part. Can't wait till the weekend... supposed to be in the 60s... which means I'll be out there!

Running: Seems to be my life of my training. Back to four days a week on the pavement. Fun Run at Pacers on Tuesdays, Track with MoCo Running Club on Weds, semi long tempo run on Fridays, and long run on Sunday mornings. Pace has a been alot slower than I want but the speed will come back. Love running with Pacers because the five miles goes by so quick and I'm making some friends out it. Might have even found my running buddy for National Half. Track has been major suckage lately. It's supposed to be speedwork... I feel like it has been slug work... been so slow... UGH!

Weights: Yes... back to weight training on Tuesday and Thursday after swimming. Starting out small but gradually on the increase. Hoping this helps me become stronger in my training!

More to come...

Warm enough to bike? I'm JEALOUS! I'm stick stuck on the trainer... it's not even warm enough to run outside (well... for me. Some people are just crazy). Good luck with the training!

Eh, the swim is the shortest part, forget it for now. Now to ride outside, that IS something to celebrate.

2500 to 3000 couple of times a week is nothing to sneeze at.

If you are a decent swimmer, you are better off spending more time on the bike and on the run anyway.

I can't wait till it warms up here. I'll be cutting my swimming wayyyy back to get more time in the saddle.
