Speed...

I finally made it back to the track last night for a somewhat good speed session. The nerves where inside cause I didn't know what to expect... esp since this was track with a running club and because I didn't know anyone.

It stated on the website to arrive early to get a warm up in... so like many I got to track by 6:30 for a 7 pm workout. It was in twenties already so I got there and did more of a warm up than I usually do. It was 8 times around the track at a nice easy 8:30 pace. I warmed up alongside the guy from the club who is in charge of track workouts and another guy from the club who seemed to be going at a good pace.

The workout was written on the board...
Ladder 400, 800, 1200, 1600, 1200, 800, 400
400 recovery between each
800 recovery after the 1600

What the... are you kidding me? A ladder... yikes! Before I could start complaining about it... I was running. Though there were peeps out... it was lonely cause I had no one to push me around the oval but myself. I only ended up doing the first half... just cause it seemed like a long workout otherwise.

My splits were the following going up the ladder...
400- 1:40
800- 3:32
1200- 5:15
1600- 7:10

Lets just say I was pooped at the end of it... even after a nice mile and half cool down. Overall the experience was good and I look forward to running more with the club again :)

More to come..

Speed work with a running club is the best. I am envious. Ours will not start for another couple of months.
Good job in getting back into it!

Stay tuned...
