Going Out @ Stonebridge Olympic

Lets just say... I ended my tri season with a bang... just like I started it.

Pre Race
Normal... like always... packed the night before... sleepless night... up and out... first to transition... before it even opened.

After racking my bike and setting up my transition... I went off to warm up... take a peek at the long haul from the lake to transition... and after a chat with Coach Dave... get my wetsuit from the car. Bumped into a few kids from the University of North Texas Tri Team and nagged a UNT tri tank to wear during the race (since I am an alum of the tri club)... Go Mean Green :)

Swim
I love small wave starts. At the sound of the horn I was off with two of the other girls. The first loop out was speedy fast... getting a draft off one girl the first loop. Coming back was in the sun... couldn't see a thing... ended up mistaking a kayak for a buoy and powed right into it.. head first. The second loop was smooth as well... this time I didn't knock my head into any kyacks.

T1
Up the ramp.. up the hill... down the steep hill... past the tennis courts... into transition. Had troubles with getting my wetsuit off... sat down... ripped it off... sunglasses on, helmet on, bike shoes on... ready to go!

Bike
Insanely fast... not flat... but there were some good little climbs. First two loops were fairly quiet. Lots of sharp turns... took 'em slow and wide. Passed others... let others pass me... I was out there to have a good time. The last two loops were crowded with both Olympics and Sprints out there. Passing left and right... cat and mouse with others... crowds got larger and louder... loved it! Made great timing... I hurt but never took it slow... I wanted to see just how fast I could go!

T2
In and out. Bike racked... helmet off... bike shoes off... running shoes on... hat on... gone!

Run
Tough and painful run. As I was heading out to the path to start I heard lots of Go Mean Green... Go UNT... Go Marci... loved it... savored it... took it all in. Of all the ones screaming my name... I only recognized one friend... and just smiled like crazy... I was suprised to this one out there spectating. The hills were on the whole time... barely any flatness to the course... passing both Olympics and Sprints. If I saw an Olympic girl... she was my target... not letting them get away. I turned the juice on... but took time to give encouragement to others whether it was a high five... smile... or thumbs up! Around mile two I hurt... but I kept going... and pushed harder. Turned around and headed back. Since there was no age group competition... I used the other girls as my motivation to push harder. I love these girls I compete against... but there was no way they were gonna catch me. Made my way back... got to the spot where the Sprints turned around... which pushed me harder... not to mention the random dude who was like "come on Marci... push it"... so I pushed. As I neared the finish I started sprinting... I had no idea how long it had been... but I wanted to finish strong. As I made my way I heard alot of Go Marci's... loved it like no other. Hit the mat... and there I said my goodbyes to the female 20-24 age group.

Overall... I'm not going to start complaining... because it was hands down a great race. I enjoyed it... smiled... and LOVED being out there!

Swim 29:53.05

T1 03:27.25

Bike 1:06:30.10... 21.7 mph... PR in the olympic distance

T2 01:27.00

Run 47:49.15... PR in the olympic distance

Overall Time 2:29:06.55... PR

I'm going to miss the 20-24 age group... but the 25-29 age group will give me more of a reason to get faster, stronger, and more competitive... man I'm getting old!

More to come...
